I want a boyfriend!
Wait! No, I don't!
This is the internal battle right now. I was watching myself in the mirror this morning after many mornings of waking up depressed.
I'm an audience to a whirlwind of forming couples. I'm watching my world as I know it change permanently and quickly. Eight months into the OYC, and this is a whole 'nother level of struggle. The first half of the challenge seemed like a breeze compared to this.
I look around at all my friends and feel a heightened sense of lonliness. I don't think it would've hurt this badly had it been spread out over a long period of time, but maybe it wouldn't have made a difference.

Day 267
What. Was. That?
Why did that happen?
Why does this hurt?
Why am I sad?
Why. Why. Why. Why.
Right now I just want to cry and I'm not really sure why. I think it's just everything. Every-thing.
God. I need provision. Direction. Hope. Help. Please send it all.
If I hadn't already bought my ticket to 12, I don't think I'd be going. Right now, in this moment, I'm not looking forward to being the only single girl there.
My car. My poor car. I am so thankful to God for the help that He sent. SO THANKFUL. I'm just stressed out that so much is happening at once. The windshield. The battery. Well, thank goodness is was just a battery! Thank goodness he was there to help! Thank goodness it happened right down the street from the apartment.
The group. Having a vision--but an uncemented vision. Not knowing what the future holds and asking a group to jump on board to an unknown destination. God, I'm following you...I'm really having to work on trusting you with this. Tonight you showed me it was not about me...today you showed me it was not about me. You took away the fancy-schmancy computer. Took away comfort--poor air conditioning in the living room. You took everything away. And all I had to offer was outstretched hands that offered You, and fellowship with Your daughters.
I'm so overwhelmed I can't even finish this entry. Good night.

Day 257

These last two weeks have been really difficult.
Like, the kind of difficult where I'm surprised I: still have a job, the engine in my car hasn’t exploded, neither of my dogs are dead, and I wasn't evicted.
That kind of difficult where everything has gone wrong.
This is probably the lowest point I've been in the entire OYC, but it's also probably the lowest point I've been as a believer. A part of me never expected to feel this low again, subconsciously thinking being a follower of Christ would make the pain easier.
Well, I wish I could say it had.
But I'm struggling to stay afloat. Every piece of me is spiritually hurting, definitely emotionally hurting, and even physically hurting. One stint after another. And I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted from just...trying to stay afloat.
I'm in The Word, I'm praying, I am talking to God, but does any of it—has any of it helped me focus on the eternity instead of the now?
No, I'm crying out, "That's a great suggestion, God, but I'm in the world right now, I'm human, and I'm hurting! The view from down here sucks and I'm drowning!"
So many pitfalls this week... Innumerable... As time has gone on, I've had those moments where you laugh to keep from crying. You know those moments, right?
The I sent my rent check in the mail and it was lost moment...
The I went to the ER and insurance actually doesn't cover this moment...
The My dog had diarrhea again and I just finished cleaning the first round up moment...
The My cracked windshield is the one thing my full coverage doesn't cover moment...
The The friend I thought I could count on to understand, doesn't moment...
The She's my mother and she just said something that emotionally broke me moment...
The I washed my favorite shirt like always and it ripped in the machine moment...
The The customer I thought would always treat me with respect threw me under the bus moment...
The The client I've been working my ass off to help left me for another provider moment...
The The venue I wanted has been available this whole time and now it's not moment...
The Yet another couple formed and I'm still single moment...
The I have GPS and it automatically updated without my permission and now doesn't work when I'm out of town and need it the most moment...
I have had my share of moments these last few weeks, and I just want to throw up my flag. What's worse is I really just want to say I don't care... I want to shove it down and bury it and pretend like everything's okay. Because I have God now and everything is supposed to be okay, right? Why is that easier said than done? Why is it not pinned to my heart like I thought it was?
I don't want to be the Christian whose seed of faith dies in the summer heat, when the difficult times arise. And I don't think I am, but God...I feel like I'm going to break at any moment...the next moment. And...
...where are you in this?

Day 188
People always leave.
Underneath all my issues lies this. The perception that has been shaping me since
I was young.
Prepare your heart,
Jamie, because people always leave.
Don’t let her in,
Jamie, because she’s going to leave.
Don’t talk to him,
Jamie, because he’s going to leave.
And then something happened.
I let people in.
And.
They left.
As much as I’m trying to reach out, it’s not enough to
bring them back. They’re gone. That time of my life is over, and it hurts. It’s on my heart daily. And I’m furious with God.
Why would He give just to take away? I had everything I wanted for four months,
and now it’s like it never existed. Why
would you do this to me? Don’t You love
me?
Maybe I was naïve.
Naïve to think I could withdraw and return when I was emotionally ready
to an intact, unchanged community. Maybe
I was more desperate for community than anyone else there. Maybe I wasn’t good enough for them to want
to stay. Maybe I just wasn’t
enough. Whatever it is, it’s like trying
to hold onto sand. It’s all just fading
away—it’s faded away, and there’s nothing I can do to bring them back.
So why do I keep trying?
The more I try, the more hurt I am.
They’ve left, Jamie!
They’re not coming back. It’s not
going to be like it was, and it won’t be ever again.
So, knowing that, why does it still hurt?
Because my deepest fear was reinforced. I let people into my heart, I loved them so
much, and now we can’t even make time for one another. It’s true.
It’s true. People always
leave. What’s the point of letting
people in if they’re bound to leave?
I’m struggling so
much with this.
What friends do I let into my life? Girl friends will eventually find husbands
and they won’t make time for me—suddenly life revolves around someone else and
I disappear. Guy friends will eventually
find wives and the dynamic of our friendship will change. They move on…why can’t I move on?
Tell my why, God.
I’m asking You now, show me why I need to let people in if they’re bound
to walk away?
What’s the point?
-----------------
Minutes after writing this, I checked my Twitter and came
upon Priscilla Shirer’s tweet.
Maybe there’s purpose in the pain. I’m just not looking deep enough.

Day 162
When I was younger and transitioned from not having
friends to having friends, I was so happy.
I was so elated that I would go anywhere and do anything just to be with
them. Anything they wanted to do, I
wanted to do, too, if it meant having them in my life. It also meant pushing my true desires and
hobbies aside to make room for theirs—but hey, I had friends. Who cared, right?
Then somewhere along the lines I made a vow to myself and
to God that, well, all that really cool stuff I wanted to do, all the stuff He
blessed me with the ability of doing—I would do, friends or not. I’ve learned to decline an invitation if
saying yes means saying no to my heart.
My heart right now is follow God, but what does that mean
if following God means I’m supposed to be alone?
Today Satan must’ve been standing, applauding. My bitterness from dedication to this vow was
eating away at my heart, bit by hurtful bit.
God, I thought You delivered me
from this? Why have I returned? I thought You saved me and loved me more than
this. How long am I really meant to be
alone?
You want insight to my life? Watch Eat Pray Love. Like Liz, I endeavor upon a journey alone,
purposely, but unpurposely. Venturing
out to these places, but wishing so much that I had someone to share in these
moments.
I will not downplay the loneliness. At every turn this afternoon I watched as
people—parents and children, boyfriends and girlfriends, husbands and wives,
friends—enjoyed the day. Bitter thoughts
and feelings twisted violently around my heart like smothering vines. I will not downplay it, but I need to
recognize how I’m growing through it and enjoying life in spite of it.
As the OYC has pulled me away from relying on men, it is
starting to transform my dependency on all people. Customers, coworkers, family, community, and
especially friends—in what does my joy truly lie?
October I was delivered from a desolate place, receiving
a plethora of friends from God. November
through January were sweet, sweet months of learning and growing, and feeling a
part of something I’ve never before been a part of. As February rolled in, so did my trip to
California, and then I slipped into depression upon the return to Memphis,
which drew me away from all those friends.
March to present day? I’m back to
square one. And it could also be
considered worse now, because in a sense I’m choosing to be alone. The scale these days is seemingly: FRIENDS or SOMETHING I
REALLY, REALLY WANT TO DO. And while it
is not easy in the least, the latter
is where I've been led.
Oh, how the mighty
have fallen. I laughed at myself as
I thought this today. A few months ago I
was laboring with how to manage a multitude of friendships, and as of today,
well, that "burden" has been lifted off my shoulders. Thanks, God, I guess?
So much can change in a few months. And I consider this now as my Membership
Ceremony with the church is next weekend.
Three months ago when I signed up, I felt sure that this is where God
was calling me to be. But as I looked
out today into the crowd after service, all I saw were strangers. I can’t feel God telling me to be here
anymore. And I can’t figure out
why. My heart has changed and I’m not so
sure I’m meant to be at this church. Where
I once felt like family, now I just feel alone.
But, all things work through God and for God.
If the enemy is using this time to destruct my heart, to
rip me away, to keep me alone, to hurt me, that means that God is using this
time for something, too.
I asked for God to build me. That’s what this OYC is all about, and if I
forget that, I forget my purpose. And I
have to remember if this searing loneliness builds in me something happiness can
not right now, so be it. Grow me. I have eternity for happiness, for joy. But I can’t get there unless He gets me
there.
God, whatever Your will is for my life right now, please,
just help me to remember You’re in control.
Please remind me that I can trust You.
You’ve proven to me time and time again Your devout love for me and that
You have my good in mind. I pray that
You keep this loneliness in my heart, because without it, I would lose the
desire for community and essentially You.
And just because I don’t have community now doesn’t mean I won’t ever
have it—I need to remember that. You
gave it to me once before, You can do it again.
I just have to trust Your purpose and reasoning for my life and know
that whatever You have planned is far better than me bending and yielding to
the will of myself. Let me be courageous
enough to follow You, to go against the grain, and to experience life—not ever
really alone, but with You, always with You.
And one day You’ll provide all for which I ask.

·
For the first time, didn’t get lost on my way
home
·
Perfect weather
