Tonight I sat in my living room with a friend while music
played in the background.
We were listening to songs of his when I remembered a
song of mine—the first and only song anyone has ever written me.
I went to the shelf on my entertainment center, and
pulled out a disc. I traced my fingers
over the small black font, Jamie Dear lovingly
inscribed on its surface.

Mr. Willis gave this to me after my world crashed a year
ago—more than a year ago now. Spirit flooded with sadness, no end
in sight. But his words met me where I
needed them most. In this place—the
darkest place where I felt most alone.
I remember timidly opening the plastic case for the first
time, curious as to what I would hear. I
was in my car on my way to Tabitha’s in rush hour traffic. And I cried all the way down Poplar, which is
a long way.
Hi, Jamie, dear
This one’s for you
We wish you well in all you do
A love has passed, not meant to be
A new love certain, out there in destiny
One lovely day, he’ll walk your way
You’ll know it’s real as your heart reveals
So, Jamie, dear
In this big wide world
Your fella’s there, and he is near
So, Jamie, dear
In this big wide world
Your fellow’s there, and he is near
So, keep the faith
And the dream will come true
‘Cause, Jamie, dear, he’s oh so near
Have a great romance, darling—we love you!
His lyrics resonated within me. For the first time in months, this
is when I would begin feel something instead of sadness.
And as I listened to his melodious voice tonight—in a different, but similar season of life—I appreciate the words meant only for me, and felt the same feeling I had then.
Hope.
I don’t know if I’ll ever be married. I hope to be.
And it's said that hope is the greatest of all gifts we receive.
So, future husband, if you’re out there, I’m excited to
meet you. I’m excited to tell you about
my life, about everything I’ve accomplished, the sacrifices I’ve made, and how
I’ve waited for you. I can’t wait to
tell you how I’ve prayed to you, and I’m so excited to share how many other
people have prayed for you without even knowing you! Maybe one day we’ll meet. And I hope we do. Until then (and beyond), I have my God, I have love, and I
have hope.
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of Him (1 John 5:14).
