But not just any bulletin.
My bulletin with my words.
My heart started beating quicker as I walked in to the atrium today and it was handed to me.
And as I looked down, I saw my name. By Jam Lin.
I sighed, a part of my heart sparked by seeing my words printed on something, and a part of me shrank back in humility.
Over the last few months I have received many compliments on my writing. So many people have asked if I’ve ever pursued it. Really? Me? Become a writer? Noooooooo. Wait? Me? Really?
And today Bryan spoke of Marguerite Johnson. At a young age Marguerite was raped by her mother’s boyfriend, resulting in an experience so traumatizing that she refused to speak, becoming a mute. She remained so for years until Bertha Flowers, an aristocrat and family friend, intentionally poured into her. Marguerite would begin talking again years later, and in such a powerful way that we would only come to know her as Maya Angelou.
Maybe my Marguerite years are coming to an end. Maybe one day I’ll be a famous writer, helping and encouraging hearts around the nation.
And maybe not. Maybe I’ll remain unpublished. But I’m finished being Marguerite. Time to change the world.
