We're all creatures of
habit, right?
I know I am, because since I've been attending
Fellowship Memphis I've only been sitting to the right, always in the middle.
It was a few weeks ago I noticed my friend Roz at the
front, completely branching out. It was around that same time,
Lindsay and I followed Faith—hah, you like that?—to the front, just a mere two
rows behind Roz. And I've been sitting there ever since.
Sitting in front puts
me in a deeply different state of mind.
Face to face with the pastor, less distraction—all that
stuff.
But today I was able
to experience something I absolutely loved.
A different worship
leader led us today. I didn’t really
appreciate him like I should’ve at first. I
thought to myself his style was weird and his voice was too low and he would
pull away from the mic too soon…
…and then I stopped complaining,
and started listening.
In the front of that
middle school autorium I stood, hands to my heart, face lifted to God,
listening to the voices of those all around me.
Envision Horton when
he hears all of Whoville singing.
Up front, you hear everyone’s voices. And guess what? There are no bad ones. Everyone is blended with one another in a
beautiful chorus rejoicing in God, loving Him.
As the worship leader quieted,
and I hushed myself, I stood, in awe of the congregation, listening as one
voice from many—a little American e pluribus unum—sang.
It was a beautiful
moment. And I’m thankful to God for
letting me share in that. I’m thankful
for my friends for bringing me down to the front row. And I’m thankful for the voices that made up
a beautiful song in honor of our God.
Creatures of habit.
What joys do we miss
out on when we stay steady in those habits?
Think about it.
